Preamble We, the members of the Anteater Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary, in order to honor and recognize outstanding members of the undergraduate student housing communities, and to promote a higher quality and standard of involvement and interaction in the four undergraduate communities do hereby establish and uphold this constitution. Article I Section 1 Institution’s Name The location of this organization shall be at the University of California, Irvine. Section 2 Chapter’s Name The name of this organization shall be the Anteater Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary at the University of California, Irvine. Article II Section 1 Purpose The purpose of this organization shall be to provide recognition, leadership development, and community service involvement. This organization understands the hard work employed by professional and student staff and residents and thus will focus part of its efforts in writing OTM nominations. Leadership development is also an important aspect for personal growth and professional development, thus a program will be developed to facilitate residents’ growth. Community service is a great opportunity to extend the values embodied by UCI’s housing department to the surrounding community. Therefore, NRHH will work on providing such opportunities to residents. Section 2 – NRHH Values 1. NRHH is a leadershipbased honorary comprised of exemplary residential students who value recognition and service. Article III Membership Section 1 – General Membership Requirements
Section 2 – Active Membership In addition to the general membership requirements (Article II, Section 1), the following requirements must be met to become an active member of NRHH: Anteater Chapter:
*Temporary leaves from oncampus housing such as, but not limited to, coops, internships, or study abroad, will not affect the individual’s active status of NRHH. In the case of a temporary leave, the NRHH members should notify the chapter executive chair in writing detailing the reason for and duration of the temporary leave. Section 3 – Early Alumni Membership An Early Alumni of an NRHH Chapter is a member that is still living on campus but can no longer meet the chapter membership expectations. These members do not count toward the 1% membership cap. In addition to the general membership requirements (Article II, Section 1), the following requirements must be met to become an Early Alumni of NRHH: Anteater Chapter:
Section 4 – Alumni Membership In addition to the general membership requirements (Article II, Section 1), the following requirements must be met to become an Alumni of NRHH: Anteater Chapter:
*If a member who has submitted a notice of permanent leave returns to the residence halls and the chapter membership cap has been reached, the chapter shall contact the NAN to request a temporary increase in their capacity until the next membership drive, at which time the chapter size must return to its correct membership capacity. In this case, the returning member will not receive voting rights until a position becomes available within the chapter. Section 5 – Honorary Membership In addition to the general membership requirements (Article II, Section 1), the following requirements must be met to become an honorary member of NRHH: Anteater Chapter:
*Individuals who could qualify for active membership with the exception of graduating seniors, cannot be inducted as an honorary member. Section 6 – NRHH Member for Life Once an individual has shown dedication and commitment to NRHH according to their chapter’s standards, they will become a NRHH member for life. Section 7 – Membership Capacity A total active membership of a chapter may include up to, but no more than, 1% of the total residence hall population that year. Therefore the Anteater chapter should have no more than 50 members. This does not include alumni, early alumni, and honorary members. Section 8 – NRHH Member Removal Policy The removal policy may be enacted if an active member can no longer meet the chapter membership expectations. If an active member is removed, they no longer count toward the 1% membership cap. The following guidelines apply to the procedure for the removal of an active member:
The amount of members for removal is up to the discretion of the chapter. It is the right of the region to deny requests. If the member and or chapter wish to appeal the decision, they may appeal to the PACURH ADNRHH through written request as to why the Candidate deserves to continue as a member of NRHH. Section 9. NRHH Membership Transfer Policy
1. The ADNRHH has the right to deny requests for any reasons. IV. Should either the Anteater Chapter and/or member wish to appeal the decision of the PACURH’s ADNRHH, they may appeal to the entire NNB. The decision of the NNB shall be final. In the event of the appeal to the NNB:
Article IV Selection Process Section 1 – Fall recruitment I. Applications will be made available starting week 0 of every Fall quarter. All residents and paraprofessional staff meeting the minimum requirements to become a member (See Article III, Section 1) will be eligible to apply. Chairs will be selected by week 5 of every Fall quarter. General member applications will be open year round until all 50 spots are filled. Applications will be reviewed by the Executive Chair and Advisor. A. Applications will be provided by Executive Chair Section 2 – Executive Chair Selection I. NRHH Executive Chair will be selected via selection process/ appointment by the current Government of Undergraduate Student Housing, here as known as GUSH Executive Board and the current NRHH Executive Chair with a recommendation from the incoming GUSH Executive Board. A. Should the NRHH Executive Chair reapply for the Chair position, they shall be excluded from the selection process/ appointment. II. Should the position be vacant due to circumstances, the position will be appointed to the President of GUSH. Section 3 – Other Chairs Selections I. Any other NRHH chair positions will be selected via application process during Spring/Fall Recruitment (See Article IV, Section 1). The applications will be reviewed by the Executive chair and approved by the NRHH Chapter Advisor. Section 4 – Induction I. Members who have met the requirements to become an active member will participate in the induction ceremony. Induction will occur once at the end of every quarter at the discretion of the NRHH chapter board. Article V Officer Section 1 – Executive Chair (EC) Responsibilities The Executive Chair is responsible for developing the structure of the NRHH chapter. The Chair will have monthly meetings with the other chairs to ensure the chapter is working synchronously. The Executive Chair has the final say on all projects in the chapter. If the Chair deems project unnecessary or not consistent to the NRHH values, the Chair can stop the project. The Executive Chair must also support all the chairs in their ongoing projects with advice and administrative tasks. Executive Chair shall work collaboratively with the NCC with the induction process of NRHH. Section 2 – Regional Representative (RR) Responsibilities The Regional Representative is a temporary chair while the Anteater chapter is in its initial stages of development. When the chapter has reached a stable structure, the responsibilities of the Regional Representative will be absorbed into the Executive Chair. The regional representative is expected to attend all regional and national conferences as the NRHH representative for UCI. The Regional Representative is also expected to attend all Web chats held by the region to maintain communications with the region and network with other chapters. All information received from these meetings will be communicated back to the board. The Regional Representative will also work on membership status for all members. Section 3 – Recognition Chair (RC) Responsibilities The Recognition Chair will be responsible for organizing two main methods of recognition: Shining Stars and Carma Bear’s Community of the Year Race. The Shining Stars program is the campus level recognition program where nominations can be selected for recognition and can be submitted to regional OTM nominations. Carma Bear’s Community of the Year Race is a friendly competition between the 4 main housing communities of UCI to promote resident participation within their own community as well as participation with GUSH and NRHH. The RC will be responsible for holding any necessary meetings outside of GUSH coordinating board meetings. Section 1: Chart Section 4 – Service Chair (SC) Responsibilities The Service Chair will be responsible for organizing community service projects suggested by the region and coordinate the event with all 4 housing communities. The SC will be responsible for holding any necessary meetings outside of GUSH Coordinating board meetings. Section 5 – Advisor Responsibilities The Advisor is expected to meet with the NRHH Executive chair biweekly to give recommendations on the development of NRHH as well as offer advice on ongoing projects. Section 6 Officers Selection Process
Section 8: Process for removing individuals from Executive(s) Falls under the discretion of the GUSH Executive Board and the NRHH Officers with support from the NRHH Advisor/ GUSH Advisor Section 9: Vacancy of Office See Article IV Section 2 Section 10 Qualification for officers See Article III Section 1 Section 1 – Dues Article VI Fees and Dues There will be no due required by any member or chair of NRHH: Anteater Chapter. Section 2 – Fees Once members have been inducted as a member of NRHH, they will be eligible to purchase NRHH merchandise such as pins and cords for graduation. Section 3 – Regional Finances The NRHH: Anteater chapter will maintain a good standing with the region and NACURH/NACURH Offices. Section 4 – Project Funding Since the NRHH: Anteater chapter will fall under GUSH as a committee, funding for project will come from GUSH and its resources. Article VII Meetings Section 1: General Meetings Since the NRHH: Anteater chapter will fall under GUSH as a committee, meeting times are the same as GUSH’s Council board meetings. Section 2: Emergency Meetings Should the executive chair can call a meeting to discuss further business with NRHH members with at least one GUSH executive member or advisor present. Article VIII Amendment Process Section 1 – Passing Amendments and Bylaws Amendments and bylaws must pass by a simple majority of 50%+1 vote of active members present at any given meeting.
